Editorial Policy
Independence
The Great Australian Farce is independently owned and operated. It is not affiliated with any political party, industry body, government agency, or institutional funder. Editorial decisions are made without reference to the preferences of advertisers, because we carry no advertising.
Factual Standards
We aim to publish only claims we can support with primary evidence, official records, documented correspondence, or credible published sources. Where we draw inferences, we say so. Where we express opinion, we distinguish it from fact.
We do not publish anonymous allegations as though they were verified facts. We do not publish speculation as though it were reporting.
Corrections
We correct factual errors when they are brought to our attention and verified. Corrections are published on the relevant page. We do not silently delete or amend factual errors without acknowledgment.
We do not correct matters of editorial judgment, framing, or opinion on the basis of objection alone. Disagreement with a conclusion is not the same as a factual error.
To request a correction, contact us with the specific claim, the correct information, and your source. See the contact page.
Satire and Opinion
Some pieces published here are satirical. We label them. Satire is a legitimate form of political and social commentary with a long legal and cultural history. The fact that a piece is satirical does not mean it is inaccurate — satire frequently makes accurate claims about power through comic or heightened framing.
Opinion pieces represent the views of the author. Where we publish commentary from writers other than the principal author, this is noted.
Sources and Confidentiality
We handle source material carefully. We do not publish identifying information about confidential sources. We do not disclose source identities without explicit consent.
We publish primary documents and official records where they are relevant and lawfully obtained.
Right of Reply
Where a piece makes a significant critical claim about a named individual or institution, we ordinarily offer the subject an opportunity to respond prior to publication. We are not obliged to delay publication indefinitely while awaiting a response.
Responses received after publication may be published as addenda or noted in a correction where relevant.
